The secret history of women in Rotary

Women have wanted to be Rotarians since almost the beginning of Rotary.  In 1911 there were all women clubs in Minneapolis and Duluth, Minnesota. In 1923, the Manchester, England Club proposed the formation of a Ladies’ Rotary Club. When that failed to be approved, the first Inner Wheel Club was formed with Margarette Golding as president. Inner Wheel is one of the largest women’s service organisations, with 103,000 members in more than 103 countries. There is even a club in Ottawa.

There are still a few “Rotary Ann” clubs like this one in Chatsworth.
